Dinner at Pomona’s Bayswater, London

We were looking for a place to have dinner near Paddington Station, that had a variety of dishes to try and we came across Pomona’s Restaurant & Bar which is situated in Bayswater.

Pomona’s is a modern British restaurant led by Chef Ruth Hansom’s menu. They offer a range of delicious dishes, great for sharing as well as a tasting menu. Their cocktails are created by their award winning mixologist.

The restaurant was spacious with bright colours that complimented the space well. We were spoilt for choice with where to sit, we first sat in their courtyard but the weather got a lot cooler so we made our way indoors, we sat along the turquoise seats where natural light seeped in creating a relaxing atmosphere.

We were greeted with a warm smile from all the staff and we ordered snacks to begin – Truffle and Honey Gougère.

The Truffle and Honey Gougère are a bit like profiteroles, they tasted delicious. Small bites of heaven with a generous amount of truffle in the middle. It was a great tease to begin our dinner, the layout of the menu was clear – they had sections from the land, the sea and from the earth which I thought was unique. Our waiter Alice was informative and honest about the portion sizes, informing us which were the bigger dishes and which would need something extra, which we both loved!

Roasted Cauliflower, date, almond, tarragon from the earth section. Beautifully presented the cauliflower purée was delicious smooth and married well with the dish. It was so good I licked it off the plate (if only.. but I did try to scoop the rest onto my fork).

For the drinks Asiel chose the Japanese Negroni and I got a cocktail strawberry fields – Codigo rosa blanco tequila, whispering angel rose wine, handmade strawberry syrup & citrus. When it arrived the ice cube was in a shape of a heart they were very generous with the alcohol and of course my face went red soon after.. I personally thought it was missing a sweet element but it was fresh and zesty.

Asiel chose the Roast Halibut, Jerusalem artichoke, pickled grape, almond, chervil, fennel broth – cooked to perfection and tasted amazing with all the components combined.

I chose the Dressed Dorset Crab meat, brown crab mousse, watermelon, confit yolk; the crab meat was fresh and the watermelon juice added a sweeter touch to the flavour, when you combine it with the confit yolk the dish becomes more creamy – exquisite.

We both ordered sides as it was advised with portion size we chose. Hand cut triple cooked chips with hollandaise sauce and sweet potato fries. Crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle, just how we love them! The hollandaise sauce was like mousse and married well with the fluffiness of the chips.

Before ordering dessert Asiel requested a different alcoholic beverage – Courvoisier VS cognac. Personally I didn’t like it was too strong for my taste buds but if you love whisky I’m sure you would enjoy it far more than I did! I know that Asiel certainly enjoyed it!

To finish we ‘shared’ the Valrhona Chocolate fondant, roasted banana, peanut butter ice cream. This picture doesn’t do it justice but the chocolate fondant was moist and when you dug into it the sauce oozed from the centre of the fondant – this is definitely a great choice for chocolate lovers!

This was a truly enjoyable evening we loved every moment of it, the staff went above and beyond. Our dishes were tasty and drinks complimented the evening well and Asiel hasn’t been able to stop talking about it all week!
