Hakkasan Hanway Place is located walking distance from Tottenham Court Road tube station.

Hanway Place is one of 13 locations, the other London location is Mayfair and the rest is global. Hakkasan, is a michelin star restaurant a modern Cantonese restaurant in a creative setting.

I have been here a couple of times before, with family and friends but if you are a first timer – you may struggle to find the location – it is tucked away amongst the tall buildings of London. When you find Hanway Place you walk to the end and you’ll know you’re at the right place because there will be clear glass box menu outside inviting you in; followed by blue lights that leads you down stairs into their reception area.

There were two elegant ladies in reception – they welcomed me in with a warm smile. They asked whether I wanted to be led to the bar or straight the table as I was waiting for my sister and her friend – I decided to opt for the bar. One of the ladies led me through the main dining area, the lighting was dimmer but it created a beautiful atmosphere, the restaurant was filled with chatting customers enjoying their food. When I was walking through the wooden screens that divided the restaurant for privacy. I felt the screens created a tree like sculpture – romantic and sophisticated.

I didn’t have to wait long as my sister and her friend had arrived, so we asked to be led to our table. We sat in a corner with a couple of comfy cushions. {I was able to check out my surroundings and have a proper outlook of the restaurant} we were hungry by the time we sat down which was good in a way but I wanted to enjoy my food rather than scoffing it down.

We had the option of choosing Dim Sum Sunday which would have been £62 each, including alcoholic drinks, but we opted the A la Carte menu as there was a lot more variety to choose from and we had our eye on the Pipa Duck from the beginning.

My sister {Win} did the ordering, I was too indecisive to decide and she knew what I’d liked anyway. For drinks we decided on cocktails- 2 Lychee Martini – Belvedere vodka, lychee, lime and orange cream citrate bitters – generous on the alcohol can taste the lychee flavour and it got me tipsy quickly! My sisters friend chose the The Hakka – Belvedere vodka, Akashi-tai sake, lychee, lime, coconut and passion fruit, Wins friend enjoyed it.

They bought out the starters, duck pancake roll – packed full of flavour filled with duck and cucumber and hoisin sauce on the side to dip the roll into. It was like a succulent duck wrapped in a crispy layer.

Supreme dim sum platter absolutely delicious the pink one was the gold leaf lychee and lobster dumpling, the yellow one was abalone and chicken shumai with caviar, the green one was the royal king crab jade dumpling, and finally the orange one was the dover sole dumpling with black truffle. Each dumpling was juicy my ultimate favourite would be the green one – meaty and had a lot more flavour.

The waiters were efficient – once we had finished they would replace our old cutlery with new sets, brush any crumbs off the table and would fold our napkins if we had left the table – they would go above and beyond to make us feel at ease and comfortable.

When our mains came out we were surprised about the generous amount that was given and still made it look presentable- Pipa duck, Mongolian style lamb chop, Spring onion and egg fried rice {our waiter served a bowl of rice to everyone on the table} and Singapore vermicelli with prawn and squid.

Pipa duck – I cannot get over how juicy the duck was, every bite was wave of juice that gushed out, and with a crispy texture to finish every bite. It was unfortunate that I had to share with two other people, I could have easily eaten it on my own!

The rice dish went down a treat, I ate it with the mongolian style lamb chop which was delicious too, tender easy to cut into and the sauce was creamy and it all went well together.

The Singapore Vermicelli was light, a good sized portion especially when shared between three people – great flavour, could not fault it.

Every dish was surpurb with individual flavours seeping out each dish. I could not fault the food and service. It’s an experience that is a must try, especially their Pipa Duck! (Can you tell how much I loved the duck). I will be talking about that for days and weeks! You definitely get that fine dining experience, with comfort and ease.

Hanway Place opening times are as follows Monday to Wednesday 12pm to 3pm, reopens 5.30 to 10.30pm. Thursday and Friday it opens from 12pm to 3pm, reopens 5.30pm to 11pm, Saturday they open from 12pm to 11pm and Sunday 12pm to 10.30pm.
