Vegan Pancake

Brunch at Café Yolk, Reading Berkshire

A few years ago Miranda and I had brunch here, and when the cafes and restaurants re opened in April we thought it would be a good way to celebrate it by having our first brunch out in Reading!

Since we last visited the café it had thrived and expanded their seating area; forming an outdoor conservatory like space which can open up during sunny days.

Café Yolk is a walk-in service. When we arrived, there were only a couple of people in front of us, which was very lucky because by the time we sat down there was a huge queue! Alex (joint owner) greeted us with a warm smile, and her team were also welcoming.

Award Winning Brunch Restaurant

When Miranda and I go out we tend to order a few plates to share between us, and we were hungry when we got there as neither of us had anything to eat prior this meal.

We ordered –

2 Royale Poached Eggs served on English Muffin topped with Smoked Salmon and Hollandaise Sauce.

1 Bacon & Maple Syrup on Pancakes

1 Vegan pancakes with mixed berries & maple syrup

Their poached eggs were cooked to perfection, a runny golden yolk that tasted delicious! The combination of smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce, tasted amazing! – I just love a good saucy dish! Strongly recommend!!!

Miranda chose the bacon & maple syrup on pancakes which she said it hit all the right spots, and had to take the rest home as she couldn’t finish it all. She thought the bacon was delicious, a crispy bite with fluffy layers of pancake drizzled with maple syrup.. a real good sweet and savoury combo.

I chose their vegan pancakes with mixed berries absolutely delicious! You can easily go wrong with vegan pancakes but this was fluffy- I definitely want the recipe! The mixed berries were slightly tart but went well with a dash of maple syrup – highly recommend for my plant based friends!

For our drinks –

Banana & Strawberry smoothie

Oreo milkshake

Scrumptious! Mine was the Oreo milkshake – you don’t need a dessert after that! It was so creamy and chocolatey – I couldn’t get enough! Miranda enjoyed her smoothie too, sweet, fruity but rather filling!

Café Yolk was a delight to go back to especially when we’ve been talking about returning since our last visit in 2018! I love that their menu is very inclusive- a lot vegetarian and vegan options and meaty dishes too! A great place for everyone alike to enjoy delicious food!
